Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has officially declared Canada a dictatorship and invoked the Emergencies Act to crack down on protesters who oppose his policies. Citizens who trust the government, who are willing to abide by the rules and restrictions, and who do not criticize or question government authority may not recognize tyranny. The truckers realize their loss of independence, so they are willing to push back against the strict Covid policies. City police officers in Ottaway, who do not have to be vaccinated, have arrested truck drivers who do have to be vaccinated. Tyranny spawns arbitrary rules.
The enactment of the Emergencies Act allows Trudeau to confiscate trucks that blockade roads and highways and send the owners to prison. Also, financial institutions will be authorized to confiscate depositors’ money if deemed appropriate. Financial institutions have the authority to temporarily cease providing financial services where the institution suspects that a depositor is engaged in activity not sanctioned by the government. This order covers both personal and corporate accounts. Crowd-funding platforms, such as GoFundMe, which protesters have used to sustain their weeks-long demonstrations, would fall under the enforcement of Canada’s anti-money laundering and terrorist financing rules.
The War Measures Act does the following: 1) The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) can enforce municipal bylaws and provincial offenses. The federal government now has jurisdiction over local law enforcement authorities. 2) Persons are prohibited from participating in a public assembly where it is considered a breach of peace and goes beyond lawful protest, including limiting the travel to, from, or within specified areas. 3) Regulates or prohibits specific property use, including limiting the travel to, from, or within specified areas. 4) Regulates or prohibits the use of particular property, including goods used to support the blockades. 5) Designates and secures protected places and infrastructure critical to the economy, such as border crossings and airports.
