Two days after Elon Musk made a deal to purchase Twitter, the Department of Homeland Security announced forming a “Disinformation Governance Board.” According to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, “The goal is to bring the resources of the department together to address the threat of disinformation.” Nina Jankowicz, who served as a disinformation fellow at the Wilson Center, confirmed that she is serving as the board’s executive director. The Biden Administration justifies this new agency by claiming that disinformation threatens homeland security. But this begs the question, “what constitutes disinformation?” Homeland Security is unable to define what constitutes disinformation. In other words, disinformation is anything Homeland Security claims is disinformation. This new law enforcement agency will have free reign to persecute anyone whose ideas are contrary to the official narrative. The agency will employ local communities and social media to help identify persons who cross the imaginary line of spreading disinformation.
Included in the forbidden transgressions are false narratives, inciting violence, and furthering ideologies of hate. A person doesn’t need to commit violence. All that is necessary is that based on what a person says or does, a person’s speech or actions may indicate that the person intends to commit violence and actively opposes the goals and practices of the Biden Administration. How is this happening in America? And what about the first amendment to our constitution? First Amendment First Amendment states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” The Constitution is only valid in a nation that honors the “rule of law.” The Constitution is not valid in a nation that is based on the “rule of man.”
Nina Jankowicz is President Joe Biden’s pick to serve as executive director of the Department of Homeland Security’s new Disinformation Governance Board. Jankowicz is the author of How To Lose the Information War: Russia, Fake News, and the Future of Conflict and, most recently, How to Be a Woman Online: Surviving Abuse and Harassment and How to Fight Back., which was published this year. She has also appeared on TV and radio to discuss disinformation and Russian and Eastern European issues. According to the Biden Administration’s spokesperson Jan Psaki, the government plans to increase surveillance of social media platforms, hold the media accountable for what they publish and make sure they weed out disinformation. Jankowisc has stated, “I hope we can change to norms by which our online ecosystem is governed.” The Pentagon has hired NewsGuard to help with the fight against misinformation. NewsGuard is a propaganda and fake-ratings research firm that uses pseudo-journalists to create new fake news filters to promote further misinformation and disinformation coming from today’s top 7,500 news sources. Newsguard reviews and rates media and information sources using a 100-point scale.

How does something like the DGB get formed without congressional approval? Doesn’t funding need to be approved by them? If not then can any agency just create any new agency they feel like? Something does not compute here that this can just happen… I’m confused by this action.
