What the fanatic believes in his heart becomes his truth regardless of the facts. What he believes in his heart is more important than what he can understand with his mind. A lie can replace the truth when mixed with emotion in this fantasy world. His dedication to a goal, his support of a noble cause supersedes everything else and blinds him to see the truth. When reality confronts the fanatic – it has no effect. Their beliefs will not change because the cause is more significant than reality. Greta Thunberg is a Swedish Joan of Arc for the climate movement as she leads children worldwide in a crusade to convince parents that they must fix the planet lest the world end before they are adults. As a keynote speaker at the UN, she admonished members, “We are at the beginning of mass extinction, yet all you can talk about is money. You are failing us.”
Now meet Dr. Patrick Michaels, the Center for the Study of Sciences director and a senior fellow in environmental studies at the Cato Institute. His Ph.D. thesis was on climate change, and he is a past president of the American Association of State Climatologists and chairman of the American Meteorological Society. He was a research professor of environmental sciences at the University of Virginia for 30 years, an author and reviewer of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. Dr. Michaels claims that government computer models make dramatic systematic errors and exaggerate global warming. Ian Rutherford Pilmer is an Australian geologist, professor emeritus of earth sciences at the University of Melbourne, an active writer of scientific papers, and the author of six books. When not busy with his position as the Center for the Study of Science at the Cato Institute, he talks about the hoax of global warming and the games politicians play to formulate policy. He emphasizes that the earth’s temperature has always been in flux, and he explains how the belief in climate change has become a new kind of morality, a religion.
Why did the UN invite a young teenager with no scientific background as its keynote speaker and not ask world-renowned climate professionals? Because UN members are motivated by their heart and not their intellect. Eric Hoffer (1902 – 1983) was an American author of ten books. In 1951, The True Believer – Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements, his first book, catapulted him from a dock worker in San Francisco to being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Ronald Reagan in 1983. When he wrote, “the loudest lie is when we lie to ourselves,” he could have been writing about today.
